Other Information About SyslogX

License and Registration

An unregistered copy of SyslogX is meant to be used for evaluation and testing purposes only. If you decide that SyslogX meets your needs and you want to include it with an application you distribute, you need to pay for it. A runtime distribution license is only $20 US dollars per developers machine. That allows you a nonexclusive right to distribute SyslogX with your application(s) with no royalties. When licensed, I will email you the passkey that will remove the message limit and turn off that annoying window that pops up when you send your first message with SyslogX.

SyslogX may not be distributed as part of another development package or incorporated as part of a control with design time access. If you need this type of flexibility send me an email and we can probably work something out. The syslogx.lic may not distributed with your application.

You will also be entitled to enhancements, upgrades and bugfixes of SyslogX up to, but not including, version 2.0.

Also by licensing, you will encourage me to improve and add features to the SyslogX control.

Distribution

If you use SyslogX in an application that you distribute, you may only distribute the SyslogX.ocx file. Do not distribute the SyslogX.lic file. If you distribute the source code with your application you must remove the passkey from the source code that you distribute. SyslogX was not written with web pages in mind. So I have not included the ability to use SyslogX with an lpk file. Inserting the passkey into an web file is not allowed since anyone with a text editor could easily find the registration key. If you have a need to insert SyslogX into a web page, send me an email and we can work something out. Obviously nothing will stop a determined hacker, but I want to make it at least a little inconvenient for the control to be pirated.

Support

Support is only by email. I can not guarantee that if you have a problem using SyslogX that I will be able to resolve your problem, but I will certainly try. Remember that shareware gives you the opprotunity to try before you buy. So make sure that SyslogX will work with your application and your intended audience before you pay for the control. I will provide support only to the author of an application that utilizes SyslogX.

If there is a modification you need made to SyslogX please let me know. Depending on the feature requested there may or may not be a charge for the modification.

Using SyslogX with Other Applications

SyslogX was written with Visual Basic 4.0 or 5.0 in mind. I expect that the control could be used within other ActiveX enabled applications such as Internet Explorer, Excel or Access, but I have not tested this.
